Next month (July) is Loft Beats 3 Yr anniversary. Last year we did a big art contest and i gave away 8 cash prizes. We’re going to do another art contest next month but only have 3 or 4 prizes. 1 grand prize and a runner up. Both winning pieces will be judged by a panel chosen by myself and will consist of one professional artist, someone from our local government and a 11 year old. The other two winning pieces will be chosen at random so everyone has a chance to win.

Prize amounts will depend on how many entries we have. The entry fee is $10 per piece with no limit on entries. There is no size limit. The Theme of the art will be; Zen, Peace, religion, Faith. Something along those lines. Any way you would like to interpret that go for it! I want to showcase peaceful, relaxing and positive art! So here is the catch. Who ever are the 1st and 2nd place winners of the cash prize must donate their art to loft beats. The two winning pieces will then be raffled off to our guests at the anniversary show. So think of it as Loft Beats will buy your artwork from you and you get to help Loft Beats raise money to keep it’s doors open. The 3rd and 4th random winners get to keep their art.

Since there is a $10 entry fee per piece, Loft Beats will not ask any % commission for this show. If your art sells you keep 100% of it!! I think that’s a fair trade off don’t you?

Along with the great art contest at loft Beats. We will be having an after party on the rooftop of the Fox Theater. Please join us in celebrating 3 years of great shows and wonderful friendships. There will be a 5 dollar cover at the door but artists and one guest will get in free. I will sell tickets starting next Saturday for the raffle/after party. Tickets are 10$. Every ticket sold is good for two people to get into the after party and comes with 5 raffle tickets. We have some great sponsors this year and will be giving/raffling off a lot of prizes, and the two winning art pieces. Raffle will be held at 945 on July 14th. must be present to win.

Oh and before i forget. At the after party of course we have the Dj crew TCT spinning, but we’ve added The Ruffneck DJ Crew for a total of 8 DJs spinning the event. More info to come soon!!! Please pass this info onto any artists who might be interested in being in the art contest, it is open to all artists. Art must be able to securely hang. Any questions or to RSVP you can email erns@loftbeats.com

With the warm weather retuning the artwalks will attract about 7000 people on an artwalk night. Loft Beats will be doing an open show in May to give emerging artists a chance to get some good exposure and be a part of a show in one of our busiest months.

May’s artshow will be titled, “Art: It is what it is”. We will have on display works by artists of all skill levels and as many mediums as we can get. The loft full of art will be a piece itself to be viewed as a whole idea of what art is. Kinda deep for a Loft Beats show but it’s our goal to have people see the big picture. We would like you to not just focus on one aspect of what art is to you personally but rather see it for all that it is or can possibly be. With so many people out there dictating what is and what isn’t art, I believe it’s or responsibility to provide a space where it is all art, to all be judged for what it is, for it all to be admired for what it is and for it all to be displayed together as one display of art.  Wait… I think i just confused myself with that one hahaa. You get the idea though.

June is still up in the air. We’re going to play that one by ear. We’d like to host a solo show but it’s kinda last minute to book a show. We’ll see what comes up

July will be Loft Beats 3yr anniversary! Like last year we will be having an art contest but this year we’ll do things a little different. This year we will only give out one or two major cash prizes. First place will be judged by 3 local artists and second place will be selected randomly. This will reward a skilled artists and give everyone else a chance at a big cash prize! The winning piece will be raffled off to guests of the Anniversary Party to be held on the Roof of The Fox Theater. We will sell tickets to the after party. Tickets will be 10 dollars. With your ticket comes 10 raffle tickets. We have some great sponsors lined up this year and will be raffling a lot of art, products from local vendors and other stuff that has been donated by associates of Loft Beats. More to come on this event! We’ll be booking a band or two for this event and of course we’ll have DJs, all night drink specials and VIP seating available!

Aug-Galleries associated with The Pomona Arts Colony Association will be hosting shows involving the theme of The Goddess Pomona. with many of us putting on similar shows it will be something worth being a part of or coming out to see. I am currently working on turning this into a festival. Blocking of some streets and adding vendors, information booths by local agencies and organizations and adding live music to the 500 block of 2nd street. All this will be coordinated through the DPOA and The City of course. More info to come!

Art Walk After Party for all artists and galleries

So Loft Beats is doing another Art Walk After Party. What’s it all about you ask? Well for 3 years now Loft Beats would close it’s doors and host a little artwalk after party. Then we’d go hit the crowded bars for an hour and then come back to the loft for an after after party. Now Loft Beats is closing at 10pm and doing the same after parties at The Drink Lounge located to the right of the main entrance of The Fox Theater. The first after party went quite well despite the inclement weather. Last month we used the alley and featured a live band and DJs and that was a blast. Well this month Loft Beats is expanding to the rooftop of The Fox Theater. We’re going to have something for everyone and we’d like to invite all the artists and galleries to join us. Sort of like a wrap party for all of us who worked so hard putting these shows together. To help support our local galleries we will be projecting the logos of local galleries and businesses and we’ve made this event free and open to the public. The lounge opens at 5pm and showcases the artwork of victor Ortega, Erns Valdez, Vincent Landreth and Haley Colston. The Alley will open at 8pm and will feature the live music of Jenni Alpert, The Truffles and Jerret Killen & The Blanket Jackson. ALso from 8 to 10 our sponsor Tequila 88 will be doing a free taste test of they’re tequilas!! at 9pm the elevator to the rooftop opens and we will feature the Dj crew The City Technicians featuring DJs; Kinky Eskimo, Kiz and Frank Marino. And something special we’ve added this month. At 11pm we have 3 comedians!! Len Jurado, Chris Cruz from northern Cali and local funnyman Tibbi Perez. We hope to see you all there! remember this is a free event open to the public, you must be 21+ to get in. we’ll have all night drink specials-$3 domestics, $4 wells, No cover, no dress codes, no drama!! for more info go to our website or check out our Facebook event invite! https://www.facebook.com/events/104206206380048/

It’s funny how 6 people who are artists, art students and people involved in different aspect of the local art world see art differently. I was part of a 6 person panel to judge the art for Congressman Joe Baca’s Youth art exhibition. I’ve meet a few panel members before and it was overall a great honor to judge the art. We have some extremely talented local artists. With 6 different takes on one piece of art it was nice to see that art truly is subjective and has no boundaries. The winner wasn’t even one of my pics but we decided as a group and it is a nice piece. its so funny that i own a gallery, surrounded by galleries and I rarely get a chance to see all the art. This was an inspiring evening and i look forward to the reception tomorrow. The awards ceremony will take place in downtown Ontario and the artwork will be on display at the PW Gallery in Ontario near Holt and Euclid. For more info email erns@loftbeats.com

Not even sure i have time to keep up with a blog and there is not point if nobody is going to follow it but let’s see how it goes. The main reason for this blog is to see if it’s worth going through all this trouble to start a tumbler for The Pomona Arts Colony Association. If i get a good following here i will create one for PACA.

So what’s going on with Loft Beats? Not much at the moment and by that I mean not too much. As some of you know running a gallery is just about a full time job. Ontop of running Loft Beats i also have a full time job, a part time night job and am President of PACA (The Pomona Arts Colony Association).

This week (tonight) I will be judging art for Congressman Joe Bacca’s Youth Art Show that will be held this Friday at The PW Gallery in Ontario. On the 31st I will reopen Loft Beats for the Last Saturday Art Walk. I’m going to try and be open for the last saturday artwalks so be sure to check the calendar on the Loft Beats website! I’ll post up when i’m open.Next month we will be hosting a solo show by Oscar Cristerna. A deaf artists out of Baldwin Park Area. I believe this is his first solo show and we are looking forward to showcasing his work.

So along with artshows at Loft Beats we are now providing artwork for a few other venues and galleries. The newest addition is The Drink Lounge and Eats which is located in at The Fox Theater in downtown Pomona. Along with hanging art there we have hosted a few Art Walk After Parties. As long as the venue isn’t booked we will be hosting future artwalk after parties. In a few weeks I will be putting together details for next months afterparty. This after party will also serve as a reception for the artists who will be displaying artwork at the Lounge.

i’m just gonna keep on rambling about loft beats stuff here;

Some of the future themed shows got cancelled because it gets a little tiresome trying to get all the artwork together and artists have a hard time with meeting deadlines. So May and June i will do some open shows and just accept all artwork to make it easier on myself. Along with the open shows I might have to start charging artists to hang their art. For some time i have only been charging 10% commission and no fees. And for some shows i wouldn’t charge anything thinking that the artists would do what’s right and if they sold anything they would give me a small cut to show appriciation. well a lot of artists have been taking advantage of that and along with the the expenses of running loft beats it’s time for Loft Beats to start charging artists and raise the commission. Starting in May i will probably start charging $10-20 per show (not per piece, just per show) and maybe do 15 or 20% commission. I know this will turn a lot of artists away but i have membership cards that will give some artists a discount on showing their art, also i will never charge an artist who is under 18. Youth are always welcome to show art at Loft Beats for free. You grown ups gotta start putting in on these shows hahaa.

Thats all for now. i’m sure only like 2 people will even read this hhaa
